Biden supporters were hoping he would do well at Thursday night’s debate to increase his chances of success in the November 5 election. Things didn’t go quite as well for Biden as many of us had hoped for. Biden has admitted he did not have a good debate performance. Numerous prominent journalists, news organizations, and political strategists have called for him to step down from the race after the debate. But Biden and his campaign staff have indicated they intend to stay in the race.
The debate’s consequences will continue to be debated rigorously in the upcoming days. It’s only natural for Biden supporters to feel some anxiety and frustration after a moment like this, but presidential elections often have ups and downs, and things can change quickly.
Before reacting in a knee-jerk manner, it may be prudent to wait a short while and see how the voters, the Biden campaign, the Democratic National Party, and the press all process the debate. And during that time, Choose Blue encourages you to stay positive and continue to put volunteer time towards electing Democrats at the national level. The presidency is a critical office for Democrats to win, but keep in mind that Democrats winning the House and Senate can setup a legislative firewall against Republican policies in the event of a Trump victory.
If you feel strongly that Biden should stay the course, or if you think it is important that he now step down, speak out. Contact the President and the Democratic National Committee, write op-eds, post on social media, and generally make your opinion known. Take advantage of your freedom of speech.
In a short period of time, some new directions, ideas, and strategies should emerge from this post-debate period designed to bolster the Democrats’ chances of winning the presidency. Things may be a bit messy between now and November 5, but that’s the nature of democracy. It’s not always pretty, but it’s worth fighting for. Stay motivated and work with us at Choose Blue as we help volunteers elect Democrats on November 5 who will protect our American democracy.

Well, it was a debate I’d hoped not to happened, but it did, President Biden preformance at times was shocking to me. I’ve not been a fan of how the campaign has been handled, however I still will work to elect Democrats including the President whose job performance minus the Israeli situation I’d give him a superior mark. We must admit the issues he is dealing with at home and abroad are overwhelming but he’s handling it. I am glad it’s not me in that office where crucial decisions are probably made minute by minute. Please stay strong minded in working to save our democracy. We must do more than just vote!
