Crime

  •  In 2023, the U.S. had one of the lowest rates of all violent crime in more than 50 years, and the country's murder rate saw the sharpest decrease in history.

  • These developments have been supported by the Biden-Harris administration's:

    • Historic investment in cities and states to make our communities safer

    • Establishment of an unprecedented permanent federal funding stream for community violence intervention programs

    • Passing of the most significant piece of gun safety legislation in 30 years with the passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act

Environment

  • Signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law in August 2022, the most comprehensive climate legislation the U.S. has even seen. The law invests hundreds of billions of dollars in clean energy, electric vehicles, environmental justice and more.

  • Set a new national goal to reduce emissions by 50% to 52% from 2005 levels by 2030, formalizing it as part of the Paris Agreement

  • Increased both staff and budget at the EPA after the Trump administration weakened the agency's effectiveness and reduced its resources

  • Is using the federal government’s purchasing power to decarbonize our energy system. The Post Office is now buying electric vehicles. In addition, by executive order, every federal agency is establishing chief sustainability officers to monitor and reduce agency environmental footprints.

  • increased gas mileage requirements for motor vehicle fleets so that the only way they can be met over time is through the sale of electric vehicles

  • Implemented power plant-specific regulations on greenhouse gas emissions

  • Proposed a Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulation requiring that publicly traded corporations disclose their carbon emissions and environmental risks

  • President Biden has supported pro-choice policies and issued executive orders to preserve access to reproductive care and protect the right to travel across state lines to receive care

  • Funded and coordinated a successful vaccination program that ended the pandemic and put America back on a path to normalcy

  • Required Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices and capped out-of-pocket spending on prescriptions, including limiting the cost of insulin to $35 a month

  • Signed the Health Care Provider Protection Act, reducing mental health crises, burnout and behavioral health conditions among healthcare professionals, and increased workforce funding to address nationwide shortages in nursing and clinical staff

  • In 2023, the Administration invested nearly $8 billion in programs supporting the Overdose Prevention Strategy across the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)

  • In 2022, Biden reignited his "moonshot" cancer eradication effort with a lofty goal of reducing the cancer death rate by half over 25 years. A National Cancer Institute assessment found that’s within the realm of possibility if scientists and public health officials find ways to drive down cancer rates faster and develop new treatments and testing tools.

Gun Violence

  • President Biden signed into the law the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the most significant gun violence reduction legislation enacted in nearly 30 years.

  • The Justice Department issued a final rule to rein in the proliferation of ghost guns, which are unserialized, privately made firearms that are increasingly being recovered at crime scenes

  • The Attorney General directed every U.S. Attorney’s Office nationwide to increase resources dedicated to district specific violent crime strategies

  • The Justice Department published model extreme risk protection order legislation to make it easier for states that want to adopt these red flag laws to do so

  • The Justice Department launched five new law enforcement strike forces focused on addressing significant firearms trafficking corridors that have diverted guns to New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, the Bay Area, and Washington, D.C.

  • The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) launched a new paid media campaign featuring a series of public service announcements to reinforce the key message that a simple gun lock can save lives

  •  $10 billion in American Rescue Plan funds had been committed to public safety and violence prevention – including at least $6.5 billion in State and Local funds committed by more than half of states and more than 300 communities across the country

National Security

  • Supported Ukraine's fight against Russia's invasion partnering with NATO allies while avoiding the commitment of U.S. troops to the conflict
