Donald Trump was the person most responsible for the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol. He invited his supporters to a "Stop the Steal" rally on that date with a tweet that said, "Be there, will be wild!" He presented with other speakers at that rally who all claimed the election was stolen with no credible supporting evidence. He asked the rally attendees to march on the Capitol and said that he would be marching with them. He did not march with them, but instead retreated to the White House where he watched the rioting on TV and did nothing at all for a lengthy period of time to stop the assault.
Today, there are almost a 1,000 people who have been convicted or pled guilty to charges stemming from the January 6 insurrection. Trump calls these rioters heroes and has promised to pardon them on Day One if re-elected. He himself has been involved in multiple court cases recently where he and his company have been found guilty or liable for numerous offenses. He is now a convicted felon for his role in paying hush money to women he had sex with. He indicates that these recent cases and 3 remaining indictments are all rigged and that he has done nothing wrong. His behavior in and around these recent trials has been reprehensible and disrespectful to the court proceedings. He has constantly attacked the judges, the court personnel, the plaintiffs, the opposing attorneys, and the American judicial system. If elected again, it is likely he will direct the Justice Department to shut down two of the pending cases, and will delay the third until after his new term ends. Trump has suggested he will seek retribution on his political foes in a new term by directing his Justice Department to go after them.
In contrast, Joe Biden consistently asserts that he does not direct Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Justice Department as to what people to investigate and who should be charged with crimes. And there is no credible evidence that he has sone so. Merrick Garland has indicated if President Biden did intercede in such a way, he would resign from his AG post immediately. Several days ago, Hunter Biden, the President's son, was found guilty of 3 felony gun charges. President Biden has indicated he will not pardon or commute the sentence of his son. He will honor the decisions of our federal justice system.
The contrast between these two men is stark. One is a convicted felon who is dishonest and would use the Justice system to help his supporters and target his enemies. The other supports and respects the American judicial system which is one of the cornerstones of our democracy. One is worthy of your vote on November 5, and the other is not.
